Action needed now on SHB 1395

On March 5, 2019, Substitute House Bill 1395 was added to the floor calendar and will likely be heard sometime very soon. SHB 1395 requires that a general contractor to be liable for the unpaid wages and benefits of all subcontractors and sub-subcontractors on a private construction project. AGC members should start receiving the Action Alert in a few minutes, but we need your help in getting our message to members.

Please contact your state representatives now and urge them to oppose Substitute House Bill 1395 -- legislation that requires a general contractor to be liable for the unpaid wages and benefits of all subcontractors and sub-subcontractors on a private construction project.

AGC opposes wage theft, as the industry is in dire need of attracting new people to the industry. However, this bill is the wrong approach. It claims to encourage “self policing” in the industry, but it actually is the opposite – it requires one business to be responsible for the bad actions of another business, raising costs to home buyers and commercial-building tenants in the process.
