Lydig, Centennial take home 2014 Build Washington Grand Awards

A packed house at Bellevue’s Hyatt Regency saw Lydig Construction and Centennial Contractors Enterprises take home Grand Awards for Construction and Safety respectively at the 2014 Build Washington Awards on May 15. Dave Ross of KIRO radio was the evenings master of ceremonies.

Lydig Construction of Bellevue was presented with the Grand Award in the construction category for their 2020 Avenue Data Center project in Seattle. Located at Fifth Avenue and Lenora Street -- one of Seattle’s busiest and densest areas -- the project transformed a dated parking garage into a state-of-the-art data center and included dismantling the structure’s top three levels four floors of new construction and two MEP mezzanine levels. Two stories were excavated below the structure to accommodate fuel storage tanks transformers and electrical switch gear water storage tanks and mechanical/electrical spaces. To provide sufficient data security the facility was built to withstand significant seismic events power outages and extreme weather.

The Grand Award in the safety category went to Centennial Contractors Enterprises of Fife where personal health and safety are of the highest importance and are achieved through visible and participative leadership such as involvement in project planning active coordination and inspections and positive interaction with employees and business partners. Each level of management is personally and corporately accountable for his/her employees’ and subcontracted workers’ safety performance.

The AGC/Moss Adams Service to the Community award went to Lease Crutcher Lewis for their support of Obliteride the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s fundraising effort to accelerate cancer research. Lewis had the #1 fundraising and #1 rider/volunteer team in 2013’s inaugural event. The Lewis team garnered pledges from hundreds of sources to raise over $126000 and their team of 91 riders and volunteers set a record for participation. Funds will be used to support promising research in the areas of highest need as well as prostate cancer and pediatric brain cancer.

The 2014 Technology Excellence award went to Turner Construction for the innovative traveler system used at their Capitol Hill Station project where they self-performed the concrete package. The system allowed Turner to travel the entire length of the station box pouring concrete in complete areas and enabled the team to reduce the total number of pours from 216 to 108 with the truss system spanning the station interior and pouring walls on both sides simultaneously.
