Loren Pease named AGC's 2014 Contractor of the Year
Loren Pease of Pease Construction in Lakewood was presented with the AGC of Washington’s 2014 Contractor of the Year award at the AGC’s annual convention held on Jan. 24 at Seattle’s Four Seasons Hotel. Additional annual awards were announced including Subcontractor of the Year presented to Ken Day of Ness & Campbell Crane and Associate of the Year presented posthumously to Char McLees of Coast Crane. The AGC Education Foundation also presented its 2014 Distinguished Service Award to Bob Barrett of Sellen Construction.

Loren Pease recently served on AGC of America’s Federal Contracting Task Force and took a leadership role collaborating with AGC members around the country to help ensure that federal contracts don’t unnecessarily limit competition for federal construction projects. Loren is a member of two of AGC’s labor negotiations teams. Additionally he served on the AGC’s Education Foundation Board of Trustees from 1998-2013 and has long been a strong advocate for education.
Ken Day has been a valuable member of AGC for many years. His participation at AGC events and in the Government Affairs program is commendable. He is invested both personally and professionally in the Association and his effort is a prime example of what makes AGC “member-driven.” Ken serves on the AGC Board of Trustees helping to guide the Association and ensure that AGC is on sound financial and operational footing.Char McLees will forever be remembered as one of AGC’s most endeared and dedicated members. She loved attending the Southern District’s dinner meetings and golf tournaments and warmly embraced the local food-bank project the District has been supporting for three decades. She made friends wherever she went and was truly a big part of the AGC family. In 2013 Char lost a heroic battle with cancer but her legacy lives on.
Bob Barrett has selflessly served the construction industry throughout his career and has been an active member of AGC for many years. In 2000 he joined the AGC Education Foundation Board of Trustees and has played a pivotal role in the strategic planning and vision of the Foundation. A strong believer that education is the key to the future of the industry Bob is committed to serving the mission of the Foundation to promote the industry through continuing education. Bob dedicates not only his time but also his personal resources to the industry having established the Bob Barrett Family Endowment Fund in 2005.Additionally AGC was proud to recognize a number of firms for their long-time membership. For 25 years of membership AGC presented milestone recognition awards to Air Systems Engineering Sicklesteel Cranes Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services Gray Lumber Company Harris Rebar Seattle H. D. Fowler Company and LaFarge North America cement division. Fifty-year milestone recognition awards went to Bayley Construction University Mechanical Contractors Carney Badley Spellman and Short Cressman & Burgess LLC.
