Safety-Source LLC began in 2002 with a simple concept: to build a team that maximizes construction education focusing on schedule budget quality and safety/health and to reduce or eliminate expensive or redundant training.
Since then it has built an instructor network that includes 168 licensed instructors covering the United States training approximately 12000 people annually. This makes Safety-Source the largest safety training company in the U.S.
Safety-Source has grown to include management and leadership training for foreman and superintendents including scheduling/planning cost accounting for construction productivity of construction workers/equipment and EEOC training including diversity in the workplace and substance abuse training for supervisors.
The company has two divisions: 1) the highly recognized C-STOP safety training and orientation program and 2) Pay-Dirt trench safety and pipe test equipment company. C-STOP began life in 1994 as a response to OSHA’s process safety management requirements for highly hazardous industries including petroleum refining pulp/paper manufacturing specialty metals production and industrial gas manufacturing. Since then C-STOP has grown to include heavy civil construction. Pay-Dirt provides specialty products for civil utility contractors including trench shoring/shielding confined space equipment steel plate rentals pipe testing equipment turbidity meters and safety garments for utility contractors. Headquartered in Kirkland Washington Safety-Source LLC has three locations in the Puget Sound area including Kirkland Arlington and Anacortes and has partnering agreements with the Linn Benton Community College in Albany Oregon The Montana Safety Services Council in Billings Montana and the Bellingham Technical College.
Safety-Source is led by Guy O’Tierney. Guy began his construction career as vice-president of Tierney Construction a small general contracting firm in central Vermont. After graduate school he sold construction equipment as a rep in Northern California. In 1992 he agreed to open a branch office for what was called the Plank Company in Seattle. Plank was the sister company to The Speed Shore Corporation of Houston Texas. Guy later opened green field start up branches in Tacoma Spokane Woodinville and Eugene and was promoted to regional manager and then again later to larger responsibilities in California. Plank was purchased by National Equipment Rentals of Evanston Illinois in 2000 and then again to United Rentals in 2002. Guy has a BS in Business an MBA and recently completed a doctorate in business. He has taught locally for the AGC on several safety topics including Trenching/Excavation Confined Space and many of the management and leadership modules of the Supervisory Training Program and Supervisor Leadership Series.
