SSCC Expands Gene J. Colin Education Hall
Last week local dignitaries helped South Seattle Community College officials officially open a new building for expanded teaching and training programs.
The facility at the Georgetown Campus expands technology and business development training at the Gene J. Colin Education Hall named for the Ferguson Construction CEO and long-time supporter of the college.
Colin who chairs AGCs Government Affairs Council chairs the SSCC Foundation Board and spoke at the September 26 ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Through the efforts of the Trades and their Unions the Legislature and the Puget Sound Region Council to name a few Ive seen how resourcefulness and innovation are alive here on South’s Georgetown campus Colin said. The professionalism shown and taught at all levels through the trade education programs that are available here at the Georgetown Campus have sought to raise the bar by incorporating safety standards green technology efficient design and construction planning within a robust curriculum. Now more than ever before tradesmen and women can say I too went to college thanks to the programs offered at the Georgetown Campus of SSCC.”
The LEED-certified 9800 square-foot addition was designed and built using energy-efficient sustainable and water saving strategies. Funding for the $5.2 million structure came from the Washington State Legislature the U.S. Economic Development Administration and the Norcliffe Foundation. The new space will be a technology training portal for green sustainable jobs and a center for business development and entrepreneurial training.
