Record Crowd for National Young Constructors Event in Seattle
The Fall Working Weekend was co-hosted by AGC of Americas Construction Leadership Council (CLC) and AGC of Washingtons Future Leadership Forum (FLF). More than 140 people from 20 different states attended the conference.
Among the highlights was a visit from Rob McKenna who took time off from his exceptionally busy gubernatorial campaign to share insights about Abraham Lincoln and societys need for leaders to step forward and overcome past adversities.
Turner Construction presented its Pike Place Market renovation project sharing its strategies for overcoming challenges posed by a major overhaul of an historic operating and crowded iconic structure. Plus the folks at Turner gave attendees an insiders look at the new Husky Stadium project which has reached about 50% completion. Even some Cougs took the tour (although they were watched closely!).
Jim Whitaker the first American to reach the summit of Mt. Everest brought the crowd to its feet with tales from his amazing life. Not only did he reach the top of Mt. Everest (a few times!) he also founded REI and helped Robert Kennedy become the first person to reach the summit of Canadas highest peak Mt. Kennedy.
Participants also benefitted from career advice given by a Panel of Legends that included Dan Absher President of Absher Construction; Bob Adams Vice President of Guy F. Atkinson Construction; Ted Aadland Northwest Area Manager of Sundt Construction and Past President of AGC of America; and Doug Tapp Executive Director of AGC of Oklahoma-Building Chapter.
Plus the group had a festive ride on an Argosy Cruise dinner tour with Seattle showing off in its best September weather.
